The M42 cross town bus has been determined to be the slowest in the city. The NYDailyNews.com published an article on 7/25/18 by Dan Rivoli titled “life in the slow lane” that explains that the bus was chosen by the Straphangers Campaign to receive its “pokey” award for the slowest bus trip in the city. Slow buses and humorous awards are eye catching, but the interesting section of the article is the part that details the MTA’s potential solution to slow rides and dropping fairs. The MTA announced it’s cooperation with the NYPD to increase enforcement of bus only lanes in the city. This is a solution that will potentially help drivers while also opening them up to greater chances of receiving summonses. Greater enforcement of bus lane rules could help speed up bus travel, while also regulating traffic flow to a point that may reduce congestion. While that may be a positive aspect of greater enforcement it also goes hand in hand with more tickets being issued to drivers who are violating traffic laws.
What do you think of bus lane rules? How would you try to improve bus travel in New York City?
