Pedestrians Get A Head Start

As a part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Vision Zero campaign, he plans to eliminate traffic deaths by 2024.  One of the tactics being used by city officials to fulfill this campaign is giving the pedestrians a head start while crossing.  Pedestrians are now given a head start at 2,381 intersections in New York City.  The couple extra seconds given to pedestrians according to the National Association of City Transportation has decreased crashes and saved lives.  The “head start” is also cost effective compared to other improvements like bike lanes or pedestrian protective barriers.  Other cities like Chicago, Seattle, and Los Angeles are also adopting the head start for pedestrians program.  What do you think of the changes and have you noticed a difference?
