Unlicensed, Reckless Driver Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
After a tense exchange in the Supreme State Court in Manhattan, Franklin Reyes Jr. pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing a 4 year old girl while driving without a license. Reyes also admitted guilt in a separate incident where he dragged a police officer by pressing down on the gas while the officer was reaching into his car to turn off the ignition – Reyes was also unlicensed at the time of that incident. Prosecutors originally offered Reyes a deal for 11 to 15 years in prison for the assault and manslaughter, but Justice Gregory Carro instead offered Reyes 3 to 9 years. The mother of the 4 year old victim did not feel the sentence was harsh enough. Do you agree with her? Or do you think Reyes, 18, received a fair sentence?
