Taxi cabs in Manhattan and driver suspensions

If you ever try to find a cab in Manhattan during rush hour you know what this article is all about. I suspect the Taxi & Limousine Commission is dealing out driver suspensions more strictly than they have in the past. This may be the real reason cabs are more scarce at rush hour these days. If true, drivers need to fight harder to keep their license points lower.

NYC legislature and the anti-texting law

AAA’s Car & Travel Mag’s Nov-Jan issue ran a column “Albany AWOL On Texting”. It detailed how the NYS legislature failed to give the anti-texting law any teeth and asked why Albany doesn’t get it? One reader commented in the January 2011 issue: “The only logical answer would seem to be that the majority of these legislators like to text while driving. What other explanation is there? Unless they’re all idiots.”

In a perfect world, all acts of distraction while driving would result in penalties. Drinking coffee or soda, eating, lighting and smoking tobacco, and even bending down to grab the cell phone you dropped. Enforcement of these common sense things is impossible. Do yourself a favor and avoid any behavior that puts you and your fellow drivers in harms way.
