Lobster Boat Captain Arrested for BWI

As summer nears, we expect to see more stories like this: boaters who operate their boats while drink and driving, or Boating While Intoxicated (BWI). It seems that many people don’t realize that many of the same rules of the road apply to the waterways as well, especially when it comes to alcohol. The same thresholds for alcohol exist for DWI and BWI, as well as many of the same penalties. Boaters who are convicted of BWI will face a one year suspension of boat operation privileges and will face stiff financial penalties. Please remember that operating a boat under the influence of alcohol is just the same as operating a car under the influence of alcohol – your reaction time is delayed and your decision making capabilities are impaired. Please be safe this summer!
