Fail to Signal

Fail to Signal

Moving from one lane to another can be dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.  If you fail to signal that you are going to change lanes, cross certain pavement markings, or if changing lanes is prohibited in the area by signs a police officer can issue a “Moved from lane unsafe” ticket.  This ticket carries 3 points.  Be aware of traffic conditions to help avoid behavior that would cause a police officer to give you this ticket.  Pay attention to signage that restricts lane changes, this often goes up in construction zones, watch pavement markings to avoid illegal lane changes, and make sure you signal to other drivers and pedestrians your intention to change lanes.

Did this information help you with your understanding of New York’s traffic laws?  What are your thoughts on this kind of ticket?
