Passing Vehicles in New York State

In New York State it is against the law to pass other vehicles on the right side.  You should always use the left hand lanes when passing other vehicles and then promptly return to your original lane.  If a police officer observes you passing on the right the officer can issue a 2 point ticket.  Follow the rules of the road to ensure consistent traffic flow and to allow other drivers to accurately anticipate your behavior while driving.  Following these rules helps keep all drivers and pedestrians safe while getting from one location to the next.
