TLC Sting Operations
TLC officers often set up sting operations at local airports with the intention of ticketing drivers. These sting operations often involve an officer out of uniform asking a driver who recently dropped off a passenger for a ride to an alternate airport. Street hails are prohibited for almost all drivers in New York City, only yellow cabs are permitted to pick up a street hail. Uber drivers must only pick up passengers who are contacted through the app, and private drivers should never agree to give a stranger a ride to a different airport. Often TLC officers will issue two tickets for improper taxi pick up at airports, one for the driver, and one for the owner of the car being used at the time.
