LIRR Train Hits Car on Tracks
A Long Island Railroad Train crashed into a car that was pushed onto the tracks do to a rear-end collision. Thankfully, no one was killed in the accident, though two of the five occupants of the cars were brought to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. This incident occurred the same day the MTA, Metro-North, LIRR, and Operation Lifesaver, Inc. announced a grade crossing safety campaign. The campaign comes in response to high-profile grade crossing accidents involving both Metro-North and LIRR trains, and also includes increased enforcement of all grade crossing laws by police agencies.
